Start with The SEO Fundamentals and Build

Search engine optimization or SEO happens to be one of the most important skills, even though there are a number of paid and free ways to generate traffic. Most people who are new and have little experience will not get very far for all sorts of reasons, but that does not need to happen with anybody. We will tell you right now that if you try to shave corners off and fail to learn, then you are quite simply setting yourself up for bad news. Just hold off on starting your site until you know what you need to do - you will avoid a do-over. Let's talk about some very basic SEO principles that are mandatory stuff to get started on the right foot.

You will run into problems if you have significant amounts, or perhaps any, Flash on your site; this applies to SEO efforts. If you have it then you will have to work a lot harder for your ranking effort. All of that is so because the coding for the Flash sections of your pages will not get read. Flash is mostly used because it looks very nice, and some of it looks great - but not for SEO.

Do not get upset if you totally screw-up something, we all have done that in some form. The ability to recover and learn from any kind of error in judgment is essential to moving forward.

If you find a pattern in what you are doing, and it is the wrong thing, then just stop and even consider hiring somebody who knows what is going on. This is just an experience issue, unless you have learned the wrong information which does happen.

When it comes to SEO, the search engines like it when you have a site map, and you should make one if you have a non-blog site. A good sitemap is very useful for the search engines because it makes their index more accurate, and that means your sites' pages will be where they are supposed to be. You will likely be using a blog platform such as Wordpress, and there is a great sitemap plugin available. Chances are that without a sitemap, your site won't even get indexed! You have probably heard of sitemaps, even if you are totally new. Doing SEO is really not a lot of fun, and that is why so many people choose to outsource it. On top of that, the search engines keep changing the way they rank sites. Those are just a few things you have to deal with even though it is not hard. You have to figure out the value of your time per hour, and then see if it is worth it for you. Remember that you just need to get in the habit of building your business each day, and then one day it will be something.
